We remember 20% of what we read,

30% of what we hear, 40% of what we see, 50% of what we say, 60% of what we do and 90% of what we see, hear, say and do!

VAK teaching and learning ...

VAK attack is a multi-sensory teaching and learning technique. Learning comes via the senses. Pupils with dyslexia learn best when all the senses are used. VAK learning provides the key to teaching pupils with dyslexia because the stronger senses can help the weaker ones. The key is to find the way that an individual  learns best and to then try and adapt the classroom organisation and teaching style to accomodate more effective learning.

Take a look in Brian's VAK attack packs. These packs contain lots of interactive teaching and learning resources and strategies.

Multiple Intelligences (SMARTs) ...

What is Multiple Intelligence?

Multiple means lots of.

Intelligence is how clever you are.

So... Multiple Intelligence looks at different types of clever/ SMART. Howard Gardner identified 8 different types of intelligence or SMARTs:

  • NATURE SMART

  • WORD SMART

  • BODY SMART

  • PEOPLE SMART

  • NUMBER SMART

  • PICTURE SMART

  • SELF SMART

  • MUSIC SMART

Teachers should try and use lots of different SMARTS in their lessons to make sure they appeal to all learners and to ensure they do not favour one learning style.

Highlighters, collage, writing things down, drawing in pictures, mind maps.

Singing songs, listening to songs, following instructions, talking partners, creating raps.

Acting, corner answering, role-play, investigating, building, creating.
